15 Reasons You Should Be Drinking Lemon Water Every Morning

image

If you are looking for an easy trick to improve your life and overall health, than look no further. Drinking lemon water first thing in the morning is a pretty simple routine to get into and will have tremendous effects on your overall health.

Since I started this simple and surprisingly healthy habit a few years ago, I definitely noticed the difference. Not only does the refreshing taste wake me up in the morning, it helps to kick start digestion and finalizes my body’s natural detoxification processes… And lemons are packed with vitamin C, B, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, enzymes, antioxidants, and fibers.

According to the Ayurvedic philosophy, choices you make regarding your daily routine either build up resistance to diseases or tear it down.

So what are you waiting for to jump start your day with this incredible easy morning routine. Its benefits are endless and I listed the 15 most important ones for you in this article.

1.    Improves Digestion

Lemon juice has a similar structure to your stomach’s juices and helps to loosen and flush out toxins from the digestive tract. Lemon juice can help ease indigestion, heartburn, and bloating. It also helps to move your bowels in the morning, hydrates your colon, stimulate bile production, and infuses water in your stool.

2.    Boost Immune System.

Lemon juice is rich in vitamin C, which helps strengthen the immunes system and fights cold and flu. But not only vitamin C is important for a good working immune system, iron is another important nutrient, and lemons improve the ability to absorb more iron from the food you eat.

3.    Hydrates Your Body

It is important to stay hydrated. Especially during the summer months. Plain water is best, but many people find this boring and are not drinking enough of it. That’s where lemon comes into play to make things more interesting. So feel free to not only start your day with lemon water, but drink as many glasses as you wish during the day to stay hydrated.

4.    Boost Energy

Lemon water gives you an instant boost of energy and improves your mood right at the start of your day.

5.    Promote Healthy And Rejuvenated Skin

Lemons are a rich sources of antioxidants that prevent free radical damage. These free radicals are responsible for pre-mature aging of your skin. Vitamin C helps to maintain your skin’s elasticity to prevent the formation of wrinkles and decrease blemishes.

6.    Reduce Inflammation

Lemons have the ability to remove uric acid from your joints. Uric acid built-ups are one of the major causes of inflammation.

7.    Weight Loss Aid

Although lemon water on its own is no weight loss miracle, it can definitely help you to achieve faster and long term results. Lemons assist in fighting hunger cravings, boost metabolism, and give you a stuffed feeling, making it less likely to snack in between meals.

8.    Alkalize Your Body

Although lemons have a sour taste, they are one of the most alkalizing food sources on Earth. Too much acids can cause inflammation, obesity, and major diseases like cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s. Click here to learn more about the importance of alkalizing your body.

9.    Cleansing Properties

Lemons help your entire body to flush out more toxins to prevent built-ups and damage to your cells, tissues, and organs. It stimulates your liver to produce more enzymes and work more efficiently. Lemon juice works as a diuretic to keep your urinary tract toxin-free and can also change the pH levels which discourage bacterial growth. This is very helpful for people who often suffer from UTI (urinary tract infection). And like mentioned before, lemons loosen and flush out waste from your digestive tract and cleanse your colon.

10.Antibacterial and Antiviral Properties

Lemons have antibacterial and antiviral properties. They help fight the flu, cold, and soothe a sore throat. Although people who drink their daily lemon water every day are less likely to get these in the first place.

11.Reduce Mucus And Phlegm

Lemon water helps to reduce mucus and phlegm formation. People who drink cow’s milk are often more sensitive for mucus production. So starting your day with lemon water can definitely help to lessen mucus if you’re not ready to go dairy-free.

12.Freshen Breath

Lemons freshen your breath and fight mouth bacteria. Although lemons are great for your overall oral health, avoid drinking or using it undiluted. The citric acid can erode tooth enamel, so don’t brush your teeth with it, but have a glass of lemon water instead.

13.Boost Brain Power

The high levels of potassium and magnesium show beneficial effects on our brain and nerve health. Lemon water can give you the boost you need to fight depression and stress. It creates mental clarity and more focus, making it a great drink for students or people with busy and stressful jobs.

14.Anti-cancer

Lemon’s antioxidants not only protect your skin from ageing, but also reduce the risk of several types of cancer. They are great in neutralizing acids as well. Cancer loves to grow in an acidic environment. Alkalizing your body may stop cancer cells to grow and may reduce the risk of getting cancer in the first place.

15.Get Of Caffeine

Many people are able to get off caffeine by replacing their morning coffee by lukewarm lemon water. It gives a similar energy boost to wake your body and boost energy as one cup of coffee would.

How To Make Lemon Water

Making lemon water is super simple. It takes less than 5 minutes of your precious morning time. Just squeeze half a lemon in lukewarm water. If you weigh more than 150 pounds, use a whole lemon.

Why use lukewarm (or room temperature) instead of cold or hot water to make this healing morning drink? Well, hot or cold water takes more energy to process, so your first glass in the morning should be lukewarm or at room temperature to slowly wake your body and kick start digestion.

If you love the taste feel free to add more lemon water to your diet during the rest of the day, cold or hot. It adds up to your daily water need, is less boring than plain water, and adds tons of benefits for body and mind.

Lemons are acidic not alkaline. Who writes this stuff?

    • guest

Someone who is aware of the biochemistry of human digestion! Google it.

      • Jean

He's simply someone who doesn't know what's talking about. Blood ph cannot be changed unless you want to die. Plus our body cannot become alkaline with a lemon because kidneys and respiration are two of our many automatic mechanisms to maintain ph stable. So, this whole lemon thing it's simply bullshit.

        • amygoodrich07

Blood pH can't be changed, thats true, your body sees to that by neutralizing acids with alkaline material. If you don't provide enough alkaline material your body will steal it from bones and teeth or create fat cells to tuck those acids safely away to make sure your pH stays within tight borders. To give your organs the breathing space they need to work efficiently it is important to keep the acid-base balance in mind when composing a meal to avoid acid overloads. If you eat a diet high in acidic forming foods your body will have to put a lot of effort in neutralizing those…. putting your filtering organs under constant pressure. So although blood pH can't be changed it is super important to keep your acid-alkaline balance in check.

    • Kiki

They are an acid that the body turns into an alkaline.

      • Jon

In order to neutralize the acid, the digestive system releases -OH or alkaline substances into the GI track. In the process of doing this, an H+ ion is left behind in the cells and ultimately the blood. Thus the body is acidified. This is basic physiology.

    • guest

The author did not say lemons are alkaline. She said that lemons alkalize the body during metabolism, which
is true…..you need to read more to get the story straight.

      • rod dotson,md

        this is true!

      • wala lang

        correct

    • amygoodrich07

Although it may seem that citrus fruits would have an acidic effect on your body, the citric acid they contain have an alkalizing effect. To set things clear, the food’s ability to form acids or alkalines within your body has nothing to do with the actual pH or sour taste of the food itself. As an example: lemons are very sour, however after digestion, the end product is very alkaline. Meat on the other hand will test alkaline before digestion, but leaves acidic residues in your body and is known to be acidic forming, just like nearly all animal products..

      • rod n. dotson,md

        true! & well stated.

    • Kev

Though it seems counter-intuitive to think that adding an acidic lemon to your purified drinking water could ultimately produce an alkaline result, it's important to remember that fresh lemons are also anionic.

Once you drink the acidic lemon water, it will become alkaline as your body reacts with the lemons' anions during the digestive process.

Use fresh lemons that haven't been exposed to air for more than 30 minutes — not lemon juice purchased at the store or lemons that have been cut up and sitting out in the open at a restaurant all day.

    • guest

maybe you should do some research before you say silly things, Lemons have been proven to alkalize the body they even help stop acid reflux.

      • GES

UCLA School of Medicine says "acid reflux" is stopped with more acid. The muscle at the top of the stomach must have minerals to be strong to close. Those minerals are only absorbed in an acid stomach. Iron anemia is caused from lack of stomach acid. One MD writes in 1800 patients only 1 was deficient in stomach acid.

    • GES

Thank you. Your comment is scientifically correct . Some religious teachings claim alkaline is best, but that is the ph necessary for bacterial growth.

    • Cheryl

Apparently they are acidic but when you ingest them the become alkaline. 🙂

    • highlatte

Lemon is alkaline forming in the body. The writer knows what they are educated as to the subject.

Wake up and smell the lemons! Doing it for years

Once you are approved as a NN blog writer no one edits and fact checks your contributions. (I'm a writer here – that's how I know.)

    • Bud

Do your homework before posting after ingesting it has an alkalizing impact on your body!

    • brit

do you research they automatically change to alkaline when reaching the digestive system. I have lost 30 lbs and feel great I slice the ORGANIC lemons in water and drink it all day it does work/ I eat the lemon slices during the day as i drink my lemon water the pith and skin are important for your well being. Just try it

    • Kirst

Lemon creates alkaline ash. This is a fact. It is extraordinarily good for your body. It can have a profound effect to your health. Please do a tiny bit of research to obtain fact prior to post such strong opinions.

    • Patrick

Here's a quote from the article linked under point 8:

actually… do your research, it alkalizes when it is processed in your body.

    • chellethesouthernbelle

If you go back and notice the Alkaline water scam is not part of the title…It's an ad ….just hover your cursor over the big green arrow it will highlight it…also note it has a close option.

    • nobody you know

      Lemons ARE alkaline!

  • Cecilia

I have been doing this for years…iced lemon water is the best. Squeeze a whole lemon if you can. My skin glows and my digestion has never been better and I'm over 50!

    • amygoodrich07

Keep up the good work.. love iced lemon tea or ginger perpermint 🙂

    • Antoni

So do I…….why?????? because a few years ago my cousin passed away by cancer. When he was diagnosed he told doc. every morning on an empty stomach I take a freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, and wait half hour before taking breakfast………Dr. told him simply…wrong, if Yu would have taken lemon/lime in stead………..it may be would have been possible to escape from "C". Cruel consolation, but I went for the lemon juice when he told me that story. Daily first thing in the morning juice one lemon, inclusive the pulp and the pits lukewarm water for better absorbation in the body, inclusive of some grated peel (wash first to at least remove some of the toxins….of course Yu find organic lemons, do not hesitate)

  • puck

the photo looks like it contains lemons and limes. can you substitute one for the other?

    • amygoodrich07

You can use limes as well but use 1 lime instead of 1/2 as they are generally smaller than a lemon.

  • Nick

Where are the references to scientific journals to back up these claims?

    • apm

      Clearly there are none!

    • DDM

Google it and take your pick of studies, medical reports/studies, test results.

lemons can increase your blood sugar to a very dangerous level, not recommended for diabetics.

    • Karen

Lemons have few carbs (5 or so) and little sugar, so how do they increase your blood glucose level? Lemonade could, if you add tons of sugar or other sweetener to it. I am not adding any sugar to my lemon water in the morning.

    • Marla

You need to read before you write things like this – NOT true… Learn to use Google!!!!!!!

    • The Devil

Really, Dr. Mehrdad? I just spent several minutes looking for any article about how drinking "lemon water" is bad for people who have Type 2 Diabetes. Guess what? It's just the opposite of what you said, Dr. Mehradad! Perhaps YOU can read this article and learn from it and re-educate yourself with lemon water, jackass!

  • Bette

To protect your dental health and reduce the risk of the acidic lemon water softening and eroding teeth enamel, I've heard it recommended to limit the liquid's contact with teeth such as drinking it through a straw and then rinsing afterwards with pure water. After drinking lemon water daily for years (didn't know about the straw technique then), I learned that enamel does not grow back after it is lost. When enamel is lost, the underlying (softer) dentin becomes exposed, which increases the risk of tooth sensitivity and decay.

    • Mara

Enamel can grow back if you remineralise your teeth.

      • Kalie

        how do you do that?

    • amygoodrich07

No worries. lemon water is diluted and not harmful for your teeth enamel. Pure undiluted lemon juice can indeed erode your tooth enamel long term… if you have sensitive teeth, rinse with plain water after your lemon water, just to be sure. I j=have been drinking lemon water for years and still have healthy and strong teeth.

    • Guest

Bette, You are right that lemons erode the teeth, but as a dentist, I do not recommend drinking through a straw. People who do this concentrate the problems to the upper back teeth near the gum line (on the inside). When you swallow, the tongue pushes some of the liquid up to these spots. This is also extremely difficult to restore, and I have seen some people lose their upper back teeth to this. I recommend only drinking lemon water along with a meal, not brushing for 30 minutes afterwards (but you can rinse with a xylitol pH balancing rinse to help), and allowing 2 hours before the next acidic exposure to give your mouth a chance to neutralize. This allows you to get the benefit of the lemons, but minimize the damage to your teeth.

    • L.R.

Bette, You can remineralize tooth enamel if you make sure you have plenty of minerals in your diet so that your saliva is mineral-rich.

  • Jennifer

do limes have the same healthy benefits as lemons?

    • amygoodrich07

Yes, but be sure to use more lime as they are smaller and give less juice.

  • LP.

Where are these comments even coming from? Lemons increase blood sugar? Lemons are acidic?

Clearly you're misguided and ignorant to actually research these claims. First off lemons are naturally acidic TASTING meaning our tongue senses acid and our brain thinks we are eating something acidic. However, it all comes down to how the body digests lemons and limes. The ash will turn alkaline making it one of the best alkaline fruits for the body.

Also, they are the lowest fruit on the glycemic index meaning there will be zero spike in blood sugars. Rather, oranges are high in sugar and may cause a blood sugar spike just like bananas.

  • too much drama

I cant wait to buy some lemons,I like this article.

My father=in-law had a kidney removed at the age of 21. His nurse told him to drink a glass of lemonade every morning,,,,,,,,,,,forever. He did until his death at the age of 91.

I'm in my mid-20's. When my mom first told me about this a few months ago, I laughed because it sounded like "Mom's-advice-so-it's-not-THAT-important." Turns out, she was right. I take 2 tablespoons of lemon juice every morning and have noticed that I have much easier bowel movements about an hour later. Mom, I'm sorry for doubting you!

  • binish

if it causes cough, can I ad a bit of shuger in it?

    • amygoodrich07

Avoid using refined sugar. If you have a cough add honey. Honey has antibacterial and antiviral properties and can help you to soothe a sore throat or cough.

  • Tom

Learned something new. After doing a bit of research I found that lemon juice does become alkaline in the body. I would never have guessed that sine I use lemon juice as an electrolyte in demonstration batteries.

Here is a link that explains how that happens.

I take Nexium every day for my stomach pain will this lemon drink cut into my stomach and I have more pain?

    • maxthecat

The Nexium will cause more damage than the lemon.

What is the stomach pain? If it's an ulcer you should take a half tsp. of cayenne pepper in some water and drink it. That will take care of your stomach pain. (per Dr. John Christopher Master Herbalist)

      • Kalie

I realize the benefits of cayenne pepper, but half a teaspoon is a huge amount of pepper to swallow all at once. I put 1/10th of a teaspoon in a bottle of lemon water. Are you saying drinking that large amount all at once will solve the problem in once shot?

  • laurie

can you use bottled lemon juice instead of fresh lemons

    • Nina

I have been using bottle lemon juice for years in my water, in the winter I put it in hot water. Sometimes I have a big glass of lemon water with ice.

    • AJ Barnett

I don't recommend it using the bottled lemon juice, primarily because you don't know where the lemons came from or who actually bottled. Many commercial bottled products under a given label are actually bottled somewhere else. I know because I worked in a juice processing plant years ago. Plus you won't get the full value of the fresh lemon. So if you have a source of fresh ones, that's the best.

    • Alyssa

      Fresh organic lemons are best

    • yvonne

I have read bottled lemon has the opposite effect in regards to alkalizing. And if it is in a plastic container, you have that to consider. Furthermore, vitamins will be destroyed. I take my lemons fresh.

  • gembo

Lemon in water on empty stomach, once digested, creates alkaline "ash". Most people are pretty dehydrated so if the lemon gets you drinking more water I say do it!

  • GabeWin

I always put lemon in my drinking water. Is it good for me or not? Does any one of you 'experts' have a definitive answer?

    • amygoodrich07

as long as it is freshly squeezed and it makes you drink your water, it's absolutely fine. Make sure to always dilute it with water as too much can erode tooth enamel. For many people drinking plain water is just too boring so infusing them with fruit or veggies is a great way instead of tuning to sugary drinks or soda's. Here are 10 other infused water recipes to keep things interesting http://www.body-in-balance.org/blog/nutrition/die

    • Yvonne

I took it for a year along with aloe vera and the dentist was amazed to see my gum recession problem healing. I stopped for awhile because it was making my teeth sensitive. It is not a bad idea to take it in a straw, or at least not swish it around or hold it in your mouth, as I had been doing.

  • Jake

Look at all the people needing proof. Aww should there be a clinically proven message at the bottom lol? Lemons are good for you. Add them more to your diet, or don't.

    • jillsteele53scrapbookingjilly

You made my point Jake !

    • HerbanGranny

The most intelligent comment on this whole thread!

    • Frankie Heck

My point exactly! It's not like it's a harmful or expensive substance, so why not give it a try and see if it works for you? The worst that can happen is you see no difference in digestion, skin tone, etc.

  • Belinda

Had great results from drinking lemon in water for kidney stones, better than vinegar I found out. I noticed a big difference in urine flow after drinking it. I was in a very bad way after coming out of hospital, and tried to fi nd natural remedies for myself. Found it on a previous NN article, thank you.

  • Hugo Skucek

can you use limes instead as we have difficulty finding lemons here ,In Brazil?
    but plenty of limes.

    • amygoodrich07

Limes are also fine, but use the entire lime as they are generally smaller than lemons.

  • perfumeouredout

Always use organic lemons and leave the whole thing in the water. Scrunch it with your hand. That way you benefit from the zest as well as the juice 🙂

  • Deane Alban

I like lemons, too but this post is over the top. Take #13 – Lemons contain magnesium to fight stress and depression. Hardly. One whole lemon contains ~ 5-8 mg of magnesium which is 1-2% of your RDA.

It looks like the acid-alkaline theory is a myth. Read this and see if you come to the same conclusion. http://chriskresser.com/the-ph-myth-part-1

    • vorp

Hardly. Blood Ph cannot be changed the article above and the one you reference are in agreement. However, he goes on to say Osteoporosis isn't caused by acidity, research seems to indicate that but osteopenia may very well be. The thing that rubs me wrong about the article by Kresser is he talks about how the kidneys create new bicarbonate ions to buffer the blood but goes into no detail whatsoever about that mechanism. Last I checked the kidneys weren't made up solely of bicarbonates so from where do those bicarbonates originate? GASP…could it be diet???

  • socal949

Lemons, like Apple Cider vinegar which is very acidic, are alkaline-forming. There is a bottle coming out that creates hydrating alkaline water without having to add anything to the water. http://www.dylninspired.com/pages/living-water-bo

Hello Drew Canole! What kind Juicer do one need buy? So that, the lemon ideal will turn out right.

Drew thank you for giving me the motivation and the wake up call I need to start during something for me to keep me alive longer, because God promise us 70's or more years to live if we want it bad enough. Again! Thanks…

  • Tammy

Can it be added with honey?

    • robi

lemon water with honey is an excellent treatment for a sore throat as long as the honer is actually 100% pure and unpasturized (un-cooked)

  • AJ Barnett

I was using lemon water before it became "exciting news". I am completely sold all all of its "wonders" and they are many. I have water with a lemon slice with most of my meals, not just first thing in the morning. I also add two or three drops in my morning coffee. Believe me, you won't really taste it in the coffee, but it offsets some of the coffee's acidity, and actually boosts flavor. I add lemon juice or lemon zest to many foods. I can attest to the fact that using lemon in my drinking water and on my salads (with a good olive or other healthy oil) definitely makes the meal more satisfying and I don't have any after-meal issues, like acid indigestion or bloating.

  • joyce

i have stomach ulcer can i drink lemon?

  • denise

I agree with most of these suggestions; however, as an Ayurvedic practitioner I was taught to drink boiled water (on the stove, not microwave) plain. For some disorders lemon can be added. In summer you can allow it to cool down to room temperature, or if you are Pitta dosha-ruled by fir and water.

I think lemons are good for you, in moderation, as all things!

  • Yoram

Thanks for this new idea which i grasped when reading this article. I got worried of Alssers due to the alkalinity it has. Thanks

Hello. This is the most silly, incorrect and destructive comment on here. The comment's focus, entire point, is that claims should be backed up. It then goes on to make a massive (and horribly misleading) claim – that "many people have died trying natural remedies over proven scientific …" – and does not back it up.
I have a medical background (not that that makes me any more entitled to an opinion on health matters) and I HAVE done some research on deaths from natural remedies versus deaths from the 'scientific'. And in this regard, the 'scientific' is not looking good.

  • Sarah

I can vouch for it working on mucus and phlegm.

I wonder if drinking lemon water on an empty stomach is ok if I have stomach ulcer or gastritis?

  • Bill A,

A surgeon at MGH tuned me on to this and I have absolutely experienced all the positive benefits described. A second professional opinion would be nice but I am not the type of person to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Hi, I find this as a very good article especially to people who are conscious of their health. Being one, I agree that Lemon is one of the important sources of Vitamin C. I think, we all need this to maintain our good health as well.

  • Jerome

Amy Goodrich, I know you mean well but the thing about dairy causing phlegm is not correct. Next, some of your sentence construction and spelling could stand some serious polishing. Perhaps, if you intend to be a writer, you should take a writing class and maybe some basic science classes also.

    • yvonne

Dairy definitely does cause phlegm in my body. Especially when I was ill with a severe throat problem a few months ago, I realized what was happening when I got so plugged up with phlegm I could hardly breathe and had to keep coughing it up. As long as I eliminated dairy, I had MUCH less problem with the phlegm.

Your body can run out of its bicarbonate reserves, as well as run out of calcium reserves from the bone marrow fluid, released and used to counter many modern dietary toxins.

Lemon juice contains acidic compounds, but these Acidic compounds, once in the human body chemical environment, form Alkaline compounds the the body.

Of course your bodily pH can change, or be altered. Yes, we have a homeostasis and metabolism, but for example, our body temperature is meant to be about 98.2 F, but we can very well go outside and get colder.
While your kidneys and liver and even pancreas work to keep your body pH at the range of 7.0-7.2 (on the Alkaline side), deficiency of bodily bicarbonates and calcium reserves, as well as improperly acidic food ingredients such as Carbonic Acid in soda pops, can contribute to lowering (acidification) of a person's ongoing bodily pH measurement, especially when a person does not consistently drink clean water on a daily basis.

    Dear Friends,

What about the excess coming out in your skin? I used to get breakouts when I drank lemon water. Any suggestions?

    • Yvonne

It could be the breakouts are caused from detoxing the lemon is doing. I wouldn't let that stop me. Better get the stuff out than keep it inside.

  • Rekha

Lemon/lime water is good for your body, indeed it alkalinises your body. If taken on an empty stomach in the morning, it will trigger acid production in your stomach and vomitting in people prone for gastritis.

I drink the juice of a lemon or lime three times a day. It has totally eradicated my gout. What do you have to lose if you try it for a week or two ?

  • dimitri

I add 2 tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar to my lemon brew. It's a bit sweet, thus cutting the lemon sourness, and provides quite a kick.

  • Shefali

We make fresh juice almost every day, either for breakfast or a mid-afternoon snack. We always add fresh ginger and either a whole lemon or lime (organic so the peel is OK to consume) – just juice them up with the veggies and fruits. Now I will also add some fresh lemon water first thing in the morning. 🙂 My grandfather in India used to eat a whole lemon every day. He lived until the age of 92 and did not die in a hospital – he walked for 2 miles every day until the day he died, was mentally still very clear. I don't think the lemon was the ONLY thing he was doing that kept him so healthy, but it was part of his healthy lifestyle.

Nice Tips!! Lemons are actually good for health and the mentioned benefits are truly correct. Recently I have read a post on eVaidya, which say lemons are best natural remedy for asthma. http://goo.gl/n25RIv

And who exactly is Amy Goodrich, the person who wrote this piece? This advice may be great, or it may be a lemon. How do we know? As several people remarked, where's the proof?

  • I usually drink fresh ginger with my lemon too, and feel great on the days I do it.
I also make smoothies with cucumber, lemon, and ginger.
You can chop ginger into small bits and use the garlic crusher to squeeze more out if you wish.
(I also use the garlic crusher to crush bits of fresh turmeric root into stews.)

  • Gosh, after looking at all the comments, I would just like to add that I am studying a nutritional therapist diploma course, and the info in this article is correct.

  • Dr. Jerry DalCanton

This is a great article and a very simple way to provide a host of health benefits. However, I would recommend gradually increasing the amount of lemon juice because it can make people very nauseous if the body is not used to having hot lemon water. It's a very similar feeling as taking supplements on an empty stomach.

The best advice is try it for yourself and see what kind of response you get. Each of us are different and our bodies respond to things in different ways. If you are waiting for a double-blind study from some research institute or pharma company, don't hold your breath because there is no monetary benefit for them to undertake such study on lemons. We must all be our own scientists and experiment to determine what helps or hurts our own bodies.

  • robi

dont forget to replace the body/hand lotions with pure lemon juice for softer, glowing ( not glow in the dark, lol ) skin. and works with killing bacterias and fungi secretly growing on you.

  • Jack Sunny

This article is very useful to me to understand the benefits of lemon. I am going to start using them today onwards. Thanks for the useful information. Jack Sunny

There are so many benefits of Lime. I consulted online doctor at https://www.evaidya.com/home.html#!home and got few incredible tips. Lime can be used as home remedy for cold and flu, dandruff, oily skin and for treating acne. The same goes for the skin of your head, lime can be used for killing dandruff. If you want to use this fruit as dandruff cure, first squeeze it and use the water. Rub the water on your head skin and leave it for about half an hour. Then wash your head with water. Having cold and flu? Don't worry. This fruit is a good home remedy for cold and flu. Boil three limes in 500 ml of water. Leave it until the amount of water becomes half of the original amount. Add honey and drink it warm.

This and green tea – Hello thin body!

and when you don’t have the lemons and/or lazy to go get some, apple cider vinegar is a pretty good substitute although not as tasty

  • Magnus

    Lemon juice is alkalizing!? wow.

In other news matches put out fires.

    • maria

Outside the body, lemon juice is acidic (pH is below 7). This is a non-issue.

Everyone knows this. It’s a citrus fruit.

Inside the body however, when lemon juice has been fully
metabolized and its minerals are dissociated in the bloodstream, its
effect is alkalizing and therefore raises the pH of body tissue (pH
above 7 is alkaline). Please notice the difference.

    • MrsRanMac

      Magnus:
I’d really like to see those matches that put out fires….they would be worth trillions of dollars….
Where did you say you found them????
(sarcastically said with an sideways grin)

Otherwise….don’t be an idiot and actually do some research….I did..

  • one simple recipe to share which I know. Put all slices lemons into a bottle and pour honey inside and put in fridge. If you want to drink just take one slices and put inside your cup mix with water .

  • MerryMary

Magnus, lemon juice is alkalizing indeed. Get your facts straight.

  • Daniel

does lemon juice from concentrate do the same thing?,,, or do the same thing

    • MrsRanMac

No….according to an article I read some time back….because of the juice being processed….

Keep two hours apart. Citrus makes dairy curdle. Try it by putting some milk in a glass with lemon juice. Instant curdle.

    • Jeannie Willard

Besides we are not meant to drink milk! Even a dairy farmer has said this…”it’s meant for baby cows! Not humans!” I grew up drinking lots of milk. In combination with other no-no’s I did and damn dentist put in my mouth (amalgams/”silver” fillings=Mercury), I’ve been producing a mucous factory! I now drink almond milk, but are many other greet choices (NOT soy though! Messes with estrogen in body). Took little getting use to, but love almond/coconut mix now.

  • Hi,
Agreed! I’m daily drinking warm lemon water in the morning and it is always useful for our health. Also in this article you have given full details about the lemon water.
    Thanks for sharing….Keep posting

  • Brandon J. Li

Wonderful article and thank you for sharing it. Lemon water should be called “Nature’s Soft Drink” and is my personal favorite although on occasion I sometimes use other citrus like limes, grapefruit or blood oranges instead. Try it with coconut water to make your own natural sports drink replacement.

  • annastasia

Where I live it is sometimes hard to get lemons, so I have been using lemon concentrate in water for years, I really like the taste. Does concentrate do the same job?

  • Steve Andrew

Right on!…I also add a 1/4 tsp baking soda and a bit of honey for taste! Great De-Tox!
Just be careful of the fizz! lol 🙂

Drinking lemon juice without adding water to it every morning, what happened?

  • Tracy Coltellino

well….I prep on a VERY (severely) limited budget. Save a LOT of apple cider vinegar, etc. Not gonna always have ACCESS to fresh lemons. Some of you say it has to be fresh lemons or NOTHING. So am I wasting my limited resources by putting a few bottles of lemon juice on the shelves? It doesn’t help at ALL? (I am using fresh lemons right NOW…..I have two small lemon trees in my house. I am asking about emergency stores….when you need good health MOST!)

  • Will

I would just like to post that everyone should be careful drinking lemon water! The acid in lemons will destroy your tooth enamel! Add that with the natural sugar from lemons and you will get cavities. While there are many health benefits to drink lemon water be very careful as you only get one set of adult teeth!
