5 Natural Antibiotics For Your Medicine Cabinet

Most commercial or prescription antibiotics nowadays have ruined the digestive systems as well as the immune systems of many people. Fortunately, nature still provides us some powerful antibiotics to help us get rid of nearly all kinds of infections which no longer respond to prescription antibiotics.

Garlic

For thousands of years, garlic has been used as a medicine by many cultures around the world. It has exhibited potent antibiotic, antiviral, and anti-fungal properties. It is very rich in natural antioxidants that effectively destroy free radicals and reinforce the immune system.

The active ingredient in garlic, allicin, facilitates removal of harmful bacteria. To activate allicin, a few cloves are to be crushed and eaten raw, lightly cooked, or added in a warm tea.

Colloidal Silver

Colloids silver is an effective antibiotic known to kill the deadliest pathogens, as it was first observed by Alfred Searle in the early 1900s. Searle’s study, which involved colloidal silver being applied to human subjects in a large number of cases, produced astonishing results. The main advantage of colloidal silver, according to his study, is its rapidly fatal effect on microbes without any harmful side effects on the host.

A number of recent studies also concluded that colloidal silver can destroy microbes resistant to prescription antibiotics. Such microbes include MRSA, bird flu, and SARS.

Oil of oregano

The oil of oregano is a special antibiotic—it is not only an antibiotic but also a probiotic. It effectively destroys pathogenic bacteria without affecting beneficial bacteria. It also possesses antiviral and antifungal properties, making it as effective as (or even more so) pharmaceuticals. In addition, oil of oregano does not promote antibiotic resistance.

The active antimicrobial ingredient in oil of oregano is called cervacrol. For increased efficacy, one should consider a source with at least 70 per cent cervacrol content.

Echinocea

For centuries, echinocea has been used to treat an array of infections in many cultures. It has been used to treat wounds, diphtheria, blood poisoning, and other illnesses caused by bacteria.

Nowadays, this herb is primarily used for colds and flu due to its potential to destroy the most dangerous species of bacteria such as staphylococcus aureus, the bacterium responsible for the deadly MRSA.

Manuka Honey

Manuka honey is a sweet antibiotic and is probably the most palatable antibiotic. This, however, usually comes in topical form. It can kill a wide array of pathogens such as bacterium that causes MRSA and flesh-eating bacteria. In addition, one study proved that bacteria treated with Manuka honey did not build up any resistance to it.

Certainly this is not an exhaustive list of herbal antibiotics. Nature has provided us with numerous natural antibiotics but surely, there are still more–yet undiscovered–in store for us. A few other natural antibiotics that are interesting to explore include reishi, olive oil extract, turmeric and lemons. The bottom line, natural antibiotics are safe, prescription-less and inexpensive alternatives to and are just as effective as synthetic antibiotics. Nonetheless, it is wise to consult a physician when one is inflicted with serious cases of infections.
