7 Alarming Signs that You Are Unhealthy

People aren’t always good judges about the state of their own health. Oftentimes, they can be too busy to spot warning signs of a possible health problem and not realize that something is happening in their bodies until it is too late. Below are seven symptoms that people should look out for, as they can be an indication that a more serious condition is developing.

Cracked Lips
Because this is such a small symptom, many people regard it as an annoyance rather than a possible warning sign. However, lips that crack easily (especially at the corners) can be a sign of Vitamin B deficiency. This can often be solved with oral supplements but if a person is suffering from a condition called pernicious anemia, they will have to receive monthly injections of this vitamin to maintain their health.

Shrinking Stature
Most people, as they grow older, will lose some of their height and this is natural part of aging. However, if this loss of stature becomes rapid, it can indicate a more serious condition like osteoporosis is developing. This condition can lead to problems like brittle bones and frequent fractures and it is important to consult with a doctor to discuss treatment if this is suspected.

Frequent Colds
If someone picks up colds and other minor viruses more frequently than normal, this could be an indication that something may be going on in the immune system. Frequent causes of immune system abnormality include a deficiency in Vitamin C and an attack by an unsuspected virus. A consultation with a medical practitioner is a good idea to find out what is going on.

Dark Yellow Urine
Paying attention to urine color can pay off, as it is a good indicator of overall health. If a person is well-hydrated, their urine should be clear or very light yellow in color. Darker urine can indicate dehydration; dark urine even when someone is drinking adequately can indicate that there might be something wrong with the kidneys and this should be checked out as soon as possible.

Skin Flare-Ups
Frequent flare-ups of skin conditions like acne or psoriasis could mean more than just inadequate skin care or poor choice of skin care products: it could also indicate more serious issues like an allergic reaction to something in the environment or chronic stress issues that need to be addressed.

Abnormal Sleep Patterns
Abnormal sleep patterns – either having problems falling asleep, staying asleep or both—can indicate a number of possible issues. One of them is poorly controlled stress, which can stimulate cortisol levels to rise and interfere with the natural sleep cycle. Learning stress control techniques is a good way to prevent this from happening.

Chronic Fatigue
Feeling tired frequently (or constantly), even when sleep levels are adequate, can also be an indicator that something else might be going on in the body. Problems with the thyroid or adrenal gland can be frequent culprits when it comes to fatigue, but the good news is that simple blood tests can show if there any underlying problems.

Is suffering from one or more of the symptoms above, making an appointment with a medical practitioner for a thorough work-up is a good idea. It might seem inconvenient, but it could also stave off more serious health conditions in the future.
