There’s been a lot of buzz lately about essential oils. If you’re like most people, you probably know at least a few folks who swear by them. What if they’re wrong, though? Could it be that essential oils aren’t all they’re cracked up to be? In fact, what if they cause more harm than good?
People extol the virtues of essential oils for lots of reasons. Most notably, they use them in lieu of traditional medications, which they claim cause too many negative side effects. What if you like those side effects, though? Perhaps the very fact that essential oils don’t cause negative side effects means they are actually bad for you.
So, are essential oils killing you? Consider these points:
It Takes Too Much Effort to Use Them – Have you ever heard the saying “the cure is worse than the disease?” People often attribute it to prescription medications, which often come along with some pretty nasty side effects. Sure, those medications are quick and easy to take — you usually just have to pop a pill — but at what cost? Essential oils are completely natural and don’t cause side effects. However, a lot of effort is involved in using them. Just think: You might have to swipe a little on your skin, keep a small vial in your pocket or even diffuse them with a special diffuser. The bottom line is there’s simply too much work involved in using essential oils, so why bother?
They are Too Harsh – If your symptoms are bad enough, you may be willing to endure just about anything to make them go away. Can you handle essential oils, though? They are so powerful that they must be hard on the body. Therapeutic grade oils may be completely organic and totally natural, but they surely wreak havoc on the body. If you expose yourself to too much natural goodness, you might just keel over.
They have No Medicinal Value – Using essential oils is a waste of time. It’s true: All of those people who swear by them are merely experiencing placebo effects. While it may be true that they are loaded with antioxidants — in fact, many essential oils are rated on the Oxygen Radical Absorbency Capacity, or ORAC, scale — what’s so great about antioxidants, anyway? The whole concept of free radicals, which supposedly attack cells around the body and can be fought off by antioxidants, is hogwash. Traditional medicines do no such thing, so they are clearly superior.
They Make You Feel Lousy – Why on earth would you use something that makes you feel worse? Sure, peppermint and other essential oils, including ones by Doterra have been shown to soothe digestion. They may even be able to put the digestive system back into the right equilibrium. It doesn’t matter, though. Those who claim to feel better by using them are just imagining things. If you don’t want to feel bad, don’t use essential oils.
They May Hurt Your Pets – If you have pets underfoot, beware! There’s no telling what essential oils will do to your pet’s health. It doesn’t matter that many oils have been shown to provide great health benefits to dogs, horses and even cats. Who cares if you may be able to avoid costly veterinarian visits by using them? All-natural essential oils are clearly bad news for your furry friend.
So, do essential oils scare you? There’s nothing more frightening than highly concentrated plant components, so that’s understandable. What could sound less appealing than an all-natural remedy that can treat and even cure countless conditions? We’re on to you, essential oils. Hopefully you are too now.
