Increase energy with these 4 essential oils

In today’s busy times, everyone could use extra energy. We all know exercise and a diet consisting of whole, natural foods contribute to increased energy, but adding the right kinds of essential oils to your routine can shift your energy into full gear more often. While adding oils to baths or massaging them on skin (diluted appropriately) works wonders, simply inhaling the supercharging scents of certain oils can put you on the fast track towards elevated energy.

Here are four common essential oils aromatherapists recommend using when extra energy is in order:

Four must-have oils to boost energy

Peppermint oil: Bryan Raudenbush, PhD, a researcher involved with studies at West Jesuit University in West Virginia, calls peppermint oil a “natural pick-me-up,” saying that simply breathing it in can give people a needed energy boost. The uplifting, minty scent can also help relieve cramps, headache and nausea.

Lemongrass oil: the pleasant-smelling lemony scent elevates mood, wards off sluggishness and boosts energy.

Rosemary oil: also touted to help improve memory, circulation and hair loss, rosemary is extremely refreshing and invigorating thanks to its highly-fragrant scent, reminiscent of the freshly-cut herb with more woodsy tones.

Grapefruit oil: Experts at Mie University in Japan say there is a connection between inhaling citrus scents and experiencing a surge in energy. In studies they conducted, inhaling citrus scents led to improved immunity, which ultimately keeps energy levels higher. Because the rind is the prominent part used to create the oil, it tends to be a more concentrated scent infused with slightly tart notes. Hint: If you prefer a sweeter scent, select pink over white grapefruit oils.

The scent-mood correlation is nothing new. Quite simply, smells trigger the olfactory (scent) system in your brain and in turn, can create a powerful emotional response. Ultimately, the body can learn to heal itself through aromatherapy.
