With the increased media lately a lot of women are educating themselves about the side effects of Mirena.  From weight gain, excessive bleeding, anxiety, PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and the list keeps going.  Fairly recently there has been a new symptom arise that has been linked to the insertion of this IUD, Tachycardia.  Otherwise known as heart palpitations.

Tachycardia is when your heart beats faster than normal at rest. A healthy adult heart usually beats 60 to 100 times a minute when you are at rest (sitting or lying quietly). If you have tachycardia, the heart rate in the upper chambers or lower chambers of the heart, or both, is increased.  This causes a person to feel dizzy, jittery and on edge.  Is Tachycardia serious?  The mayo clinic is quoted as stating “Tachycardia can seriously disrupt normal heart function, increase the risk of stroke, or cause sudden cardiac arrest or death.”  Very serious if you ask me.

A lot of women who are getting the Mirena IUD are noticing serious side effects immediately.  The side effects listed on http://detoxscientific.com/mirena-weight-gain/ are the more common side effects:

  • Excess weight gain
  • Noticeable hair loss

  • Bloating
  • Insulin resistance
  • Acne
  • Sexual dysfunction and low libido
  • Mood swings
  • Depression
  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Foggy thinking
  • Brain damage
  • Rapid aging

Notice the anxiety, depression, mood swings in that list?  Now add in a bit of tachycardia that could kill a woman, this is serious stuff!

Women who are thinking about getting the Mirena IUD need to make sure they are educated and informed.  The women who have Mirena and are experiencing side effects from it need to be aware of all of the comprehensive list of side effects and learn how serious they are (like tachycardia).  Research and articles like this are very helpful.  If you are a woman who is suffering, keep educating yourself.  A websites like the one previously mentioned is a good place to start.  It has a lot of information regarding the Mirena IUD, the side effects, and ways that you can help yourself get stronger and healthier.  Remember, knowledge is power!
