Did you know… some natural remedies are potent treatment against thyroid dysfunction? As they help in its restoration, and regulation.
Before moving down to its remedies. Let’s first discuss the structure, and function of thyroid gland.
Thyroid gland looks like a butterfly in shape. It is located below your Adam’s apple. It function includes proper management of energy levels, mood-balance, weight control, hormone control, proper working of the digestive system, and metabolism.
The thyroid gland, is a very sensitive gland. And if we look at the statistics of America alone, almost 20 million Americans are suffering from some sort of thyroid problem. Only, 10 million Americans have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism- a condition that is a result of poor production of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland. Generally speaking, these stats are only for America. If you look globally, then more people suffer from thyroid diseases. Plus, in some cases the thyroid dysfunction is misdiagnosed as other diseases for instance fibromyalgia.
Few symptoms of Hypothyroidism are as following:
- Impaired memory
- Depression
- Slowed heart rate
- Thinning hair
- Irregular menstrual periods or heavier than normal
- Swelling stiffness or pain in your joints
- Muscle stiffness, tenderness, and aches
- Elevated blood cholesterol levels
- Muscle weakness
- Hoarseness
- Puffy face
- Weight gain
- Dry skin
- Constipation
- Increased sensitivity to cold
- Fatigue
Kiran’s Recommendations to Better Manage Your Thyroid Gland:
- Cranberry juice, 100% pure, unsweetened, 1 cup
- Water, purified, 7 cups
- Cinnamon, ground, ½ tsp.
- Ginger, ground, ¼ tsp.
- Nutmeg, ground, ¼ tsp.
- Orange juice, freshly squeezed, ¾ cup
- Lemon juice, freshly squeezed, ¼ cup
Preparation:
- Firstly, boil the water.
- Then, add cranberry juice in it.
- Decrease the flame, and then add the spices.
- Let it simmer for 20 minutes.
- Cool it, and consume.
2. Consume More Bone Broth:
This broth is made up of chicken bones, and water. Prepared at a low flame, and is a rich source of collagen protein. Which works immensely to normalize hormones, and helps to manage thyroid dysfunction, and adrenal fatigue.
For best results, I recommend you to add coconut oil, and salt.
3. Stay Away From Soy, and Gluten:
If you have thyroid problem? Then, I suggest you to leave soy, as soy can block, the thyroid ability to absorb iodine which is required for proper functioning of thyroid. So, stay away from the following foods:
- Miso
- Tamari
- Tempeh
Also, wheat contains gliaden-a protein that causes the thyroid gland to self-attack. So, I recommend you to avoid, the both types of foods for proper thyroid management.
4. Do you Have Grave’s or Hashimoto’s Disease?
In Grave’s disease, the thyroid gland produces more thyroid hormones; and in Hashimoto’s disease, the body’s own immune system attack the body, itself.
As, cooking deactivates goitrogenic foods that suppress the uptake of iodine-required for proper thyroid function. I recommend you to cook the following foods before consumption:
- Peanuts
- Sprouts
- Watercress
- Bok choy
- Cauliflower
- Brussels sprouts
- Kale
- Broccoli
- Cabbage
Kiran’s Footnote:
I recommend you to eat the following foods more for better thyroid health:
- Pineapples
- Artichokes
- Onions
- Kelp
- Seaweeds
- Omega 3 rich:
- Coconut oil,
- And chia seeds.
- Selenium rich:
- Brazil nuts
- Sunflower seeds
- Garlic
- Crimini mushrooms
- Wild shellfish
- Pastured raised eggs
These dietary changes help in proper management of your thyroid.
All the best!
