Mystical Pyramids of Teotihuacan

We recently took a trip to the Pyramids of Teotihuacan, the ancient sacred site where we explored intimacy in leadership. At Teo there are two major pyramids: the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon. We stayed at The Dreaming House Bed & Breakfast, a lovely setting with beautiful landscaping, lots of sculptures, a restaurant, an outdoor fire circle and lots of rooms where the balconies overlooked gardens.

This venue assisted in our exploration. Their staff and the holy feeling that emanated from the hotel facilitated our sacred community as a container for our experiences. In this way, we were able to explore what intimacy in leadership feels like by creating it through our collective willingness, sharing on our experiences as they occurred, and then melding our experiences back into our various communities once we returned home.

Ancient Pyramids

The ancient sacred site of Teotihuacan offered us her remarkable history and energy to explore intimacy in leadership. John Michell in Mysteries of the Mexican Pyramids, felt that these “monuments contain, both in their dimensions and their relative geographical positions, the whole vocabulary of the sacred language of the past.” Michell believes such buildings were built by men who “knew something of the laws which govern the intergalactic flow of living energy and their application to the development of life on earth”.

The pyramids were strong forces and you could feel their energy all around the area, not just on the grounds.

Avenue of the Dead

During the trip, we walked up the Avenue of the Dead, and conducted a sacred purification ceremony before proceeding closer to the pyramids. First, we gathered in a tight bundle under the Tree of Teo and listened to a talk. Then, we sang a song. Before actually entering the site, we formed three columns to process toward the Angels of Death, three lovely ladies from our group who represented these energies. They were assembled in a row just before a bridge along a riverbank. To pass through the spiritual gate, you would need confront your angel and then walk across the bridge if you passed the test.

“I’ve given you everything, everything that you are,” my Angel of Death said with tears in her eyes when I greeted her. She spoke a few more words and then asked, “Are you ready?”

“It’s an illusion,” I said. “You’re surrounded by beautiful butterflies, water, lush green grass and trees—life. Truly death is an illusion. You could have stood anywhere, but this is where you chose to stand. This is a profound message about the illusion of death. Thank you for everything you’ve given me, and thank you for your intent to discover the Song of Teo.”

We both cried and hugged each other. Then, she gestured for me to pass through the gate.

Powers of Darkness: Our Journey into the Cave

“We’re building an intimacy with the ancestral world and they might be partners in our leadership. That’s a rare opportunity,” Will Taegel said.

One night, we were fortunate to descend into a cave complex that according to the indigenous elders was linked to the renowned cloverleaf cave under the Pyramid of the Sun. It was a place of ceremony and the elders of old were buried nearby. We conducted another purification ceremony first in total darkness and then by candlelight.

Will burnt branches from a 3500 year old tree as a gift from that eco-field to the Teo eco-field. Then, we sang and cleared our negative feelings away within the safe container of our sacred spiritual community. This ceremony occurred several days into our journey after we had gained a sense of intimacy and security in being vulnerable with one another.

This sacred ceremony was another catalyst to opening into the greater intimacy that Teotihuacan as a living being offered us. We relived what our ancestors practiced. I wondered what connection this had with our ability to gain intimacy with the Teo eco-field.

The Dream Climb Up the Pyramid of the Sun

As we began the climb up the Pyramid of the Sun, I prayed at the first step, “I offer my writing project to you and hope you accept it and this is what you want. If you do, please show me a sign.

“Oh, you’ve already shown me lots of beautiful signs,” I laughed. “Still, please show me a sign if you accept.”

Throughout the climb up the Pyramid of the Sun (and afterward), I felt that the ancient sacred site had accepted my writing project. She opened her doors into intimacy and into her deep secrets. This discovery process promises to be fascinating and sublime.

I hope that you also have a chance to travel to these amazing pyramids during your lifetime!
