The story of Thieves Oil takes us all the way back to the Plague in the15th century. There were thieves who preyed upon the dead and dying but somehow never became infected.  A famous band of four thieves were finally captured in Marseilles, France and charged with the crime of robbing the plague victims.  At the trial, the Magistrate offered to go easy on them if they would divulge how they avoided contracting the horrific infection, in spite of their continual and very close contact with infected corpses. It was revealed that the special formula they had concocted was provided by perfumers and spice traders.  The thieves had simply rubbed themselves with a concoction of aromatic herbs (cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, and rosemary).

Modern day essential oil has recreated this medieval Thieves oil.  Not surprisingly it is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-septic and anti-fungal and can be used as a hand sanitizer, rubbed on the chest and neck and used in a diffuser to protect from cold, coughs and flu.  Natural advocates have been diffusing this powerful essential oil into the air during cold and flu season and noticing a huge decrease in illness for their families.

Now is the perfect time to try Thieves Oil at home because it smells like Christmas!

Here’s a Do it Yourself Recipe to make a batch that will last a good long time.

Thieves Oil

  • 1 Tablespoon Clove Essential Oil
  • 1 Tablespoon Lemon Essential Oil
  • 2 teaspoons Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil
  • 2 teaspoons Eucalyptus Essential Oil
  • 2 teaspoons Rosemary Essential Oil
  • Special Brown bottles with droppers

Use Virgin Coconut Oil melted (as a carrier oil for dilution and blending the oils together)

Approximately 20 drops of the blend with 2 Tablespoons of coconut oil before using topically.

The undiluted mixture can be added directly to a diffuser for a great way to fight infection, use 5-10 drops.  Make a disinfecting spray with it by adding 3 drops to 3 ounces of water in a spray bottle. You can use the diluted Thieves Oil as a hand sanitizer, rubbed on the bottom of feet to keep away cold and flu, rubbed on areas you may be having aches and pains, rubbed on the chest and neck to protect.

If you are lazy like me, you can also buy Thieves Oil already blended and ready to use.  You can find it here.  Also, here’s the type of diffuser I like to use.

Yeah…and a 5ml rather than the regular 15ml bottle. The fact that the author points to that specific page rather than the many others on Amazon that offer the product at a more realistic price of $35-$40 makes this entire post fishy. Perhaps the real purpose of the post is to paint the Thieves brand in a negative light while sending traffic to the doTERRA diffuser.

I am the author on this post. I immediately reported the error on the page to the 3rd party seller on Amazon and to Amazon. I also wrote a response here that hasn't been posted yet. The link was to a $14.99 bottle of Thieves Oil. Not sure what went wrong but appreciate your help in directing others. I assure you there was no foul play on my part. i love using the stuff, told people how to make it and where to find it reasonably priced. Here's an alternative link for the Thieves oil until they fix the other one. It is the weekend before Christmas so not too many people working! Merry Christmas and thanks for your post. http://bit.ly/thievesoil

I have been using thieves oil, spray, hand sanitizer and cleaning products for over 10 years. I use the oils from Young Living -as a distributor, but I only buy for myself and my family. If I am diligent in spraying my mouth, I don't get sick. I keep a bottle of Thieves spray in my purse at all times. When my daughter was in nursing school, the class was asked to bring in something they thought would kill more bacteria and viruses. She brought in her Thieves. It killed every virus and bacteria that they tested it for. It was the only substance that did. The teacher was amazed!

      Marilyn,
Thanks for sharing that! I love the story of your daughters nursing class. That is powerful stuff. Send me Your Young Living Link as I recommend this product a lot! Blessings, Sandy

This is really true. You could use Thieves but I think there are better choices. What I usually use for muscle discomforts is Copaiba, Idaho Balsam Fir, Nutmeg and Marjoram essential oils with a little V-6 Massage Oil. For more information visit http://www.megaoils.com.
