Yerba Mate: The Powerhouse Nutrient For Healing, Anti-Aging and Enhanced Health

Yerba mate has been used as a base for herbal medicines in South America for centuries, and the plant’s benefits and therapeutic properties have recently been verified by a number of scientific studies. The chemical components of yerba mate are similar to those found in green tea; however, yerba mate is more nutritious than green tea.

Yerba mate contains 24 vitamins and minerals, amino acids 15 and 11, polyphenols; a group of phytochemicals (biologically active compounds found in plants) that act as powerful antioxidants.
Besides polyphenols, yerba mate contains saponins. Saponins are phytochemicals that strengthen the immune system and protect the body against disease.
This “natural purification compound” (glycosides) can be found in a wide variety of plants and bind to cholesterol so it cannot be absorbed into the system and is discharged from the body.

Yerba Mate Health Benefits:

High antioxidant capacity; reduce oxidative stress
High amounts of minerals and vitamins (potassium, manganese, phosphorus, sodium, nitrogen, etc. Vitamins A, C, E etc.)

No Negative Side Effects

From reports of personal experience with Mate, its physiological effects are similar to yet distinct from more widespread caffeinated beverages like coffee or tea. Users report a mental state of wakefulness, focus and alertness reminiscent of most stimulants, but often remark on Yerba Mate’s unique lack of the negative effects typically created by other such compounds, such as anxiety, diarrhea, “jitteriness”, and heart palpitations.

Studies of Mate, though very limited, have shown prelimary evidence that the Mate xanthine cocktail is different from other plants containing caffeine most significantly in its effects on muscle tissue, as opposed to those on the central nervous system, which are similar to those of other natural stimulants. Yerba Mate has been shown to have a relaxing effect on smooth muscle tissue, and a stimulating effect on myocardial (heart) tissue.
