Curcumin Prevents Fluoride from Destroying Your Brain

Fluoride is everywhere – in drinking water, toothpastes and other personal care products, and even in some medications. And in spite of the fact that it has been – and continues to be — the subject of hot debate among health and safety advocates, it is almost impossible to avoid. Read on to find out about the possible dangers of fluoride and about what curcumin can do to help.

Why Fluoride is so Controversial

So many people are upset at the continued use of fluoride in public drinking water, toothpaste and other products because there is mounting evidence to suggest that it is toxic and that the health consequences of fluoride exposure can be severe.

One of the aspects of this issue that has people so concerned is the increasing belief that fluoride is a neurotoxins – that is, that it unfavorably impacts the neurons of the brain and nervous system and can cause problems in the brain itself. There is evidence to suggest that fluoridation can lower the IQ, especially in children who are still developing neurologically as they grow and are thus more vulnerable. There are also studies that have uncovered a link between fluoridation and calcification of the pineal gland, a gland in the brain which is responsible many important bodily functions.

Where Does Curcumin Come In?

A new study, published in Pharmacognosy Magazine, has created a real stir amongst opponent of fluoridation after its recent debut. This article, entitled “Curcumin Attenuates Neurotoxicity Induced by Fluoride” lends further credence to the belief that fluoride is indeed a neurotoxin but also shows that curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, can have a mitigating effect on this damage.

This research is coming out of the Department of Zoology at Sukhadia University in India, and opens with a historical study of the potentially neurotoxic effects of fluoride, discussing the link between it and neurological conditions. Scientists wanted to test if curcumin, which has powerful antioxidant properties, would protect the neurons against the destructive action of the fluoride. When they fluoridating laboratory rats and treating the intervention group with curcumin, it was found that the rats that had received the curcumin showed significantly less oxidative neurological damage than the group which did not receive the curcumin.

Curcumin and the Brain

This is not the only study which has found that curcumin can have positive impacts on neurological health. There are actually over 200 studies from around the world that have found curcumin to be a neuroprotective agent and has potential for treatment in a number of these conditions. One exciting study has suggested that it can greatly help neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s, for which there is no current cure.

So if you are interested in keeping your mind as well as your body healthy, consider supplementation with curcumin. It’s antioxidant properties are not just good for your general health, but help boost and support healthy brain function and even protects the brain from damage by neurotoxins like fluoride.
